William Fain Productions is a “grass roots” production company based in Tennessee encompassing film, music, and marketing products. Using talented, local crew, who become part of an on-going production team, we are dedicated to making quality films using both SAG and non-union actors. It is our intention to benefit the entire independent film community by making equipment and music available to film makers at an affordable cost, and to inspire others to know that it can be done.
William Fain Productions is the result of one man’s vision and perseverance, combined with the talents, hard work, and loyalty of those who believe in his dream.
William R. Fain / Executive Producer
Better known as Wilky, William Fain is more than a throw back to the days when a man’s word was in his handshake. Wilky is fast talking and fast thinking; yet, unlike what that conjures up mentally, he actually honors what he says. He is a “here’s the problem…and here’s the solution” kind of man.
Born in the month of October and raised in Jackson, Tennessee, Wilky married his high school sweetheart, and fathered his handsome son, Jake, by his mid-20s. By 1995, divorced, Wilky was in Lexington, Tennessee, where he owned and ran a grocery store, tobacco shop, and custom sound shop. Needing a 4’x8’ sign for the latter, Wilky met Ed Harris who owned a sign shop, and a remarkable brother-like friendship began.
Where many men think a thought – “Man, wouldn’t it be great to be in Nascar?”, Wilky thinks, “Man, let’s be in Nascar!” – and then proceeds to do it. So that’s what Wilky did. He owned three race teams and then started a sports magazine. He also had a radio talk show about Nascar and related sports issues called Pit Stop.
In 2002, in the month of October, Wilky’s life changed forever by the birth of his daughter, Addison Blair Fain. Being an unmarried father, Wilky has had to fight for the right to be a father. The fight has been so intense, that he began to write the experience. Then came the idea, “this should be a movie. Ed, let’s make a movie.” Wilky’s first film, A Father’s Rights, was finished with principal photography in May 2007, and is in the final stages of post production.
Karen Carlson / Acting Coach / Producer
is a member in good standing of “The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences” and she has the honor to vote on which movies and which actors get the Academy Award. From New York to Los Angeles to Chicago to Vancouver to Mexico City.....back to LA and locations all over the country, for 40 plus years, Karen did leads in television, film, and theatre. She has worked with all levels of talent....from Robert Redford, Carroll O’Connor, Elliott Gould, George C. Scott to new comers (at the time), Kirk Cameron, C. Thomas Howell, Diane Ladd, and on and on.
Karen continually studied, learning new aspects of her business...writing, producing, pitching ideas to the studios. Realizing that in order to have longevity in the business, one needed to know their craft, and having made the decision to become a good actress....not just another pretty face, Karen left LA for New York to study. That’s where the good teachers were located.....teachers like Sanford Meisner, Stella Adler, Uta Hagen, and David Craig. She has had the fortunate opportunity to study under all of them and now she is sharing that knowledge.
At William Fain Productions she coaches our actors to bring performances out of them that help add great production value to our projects. Acting, in my opinion, is not just "putting on a mask", but finding the character in one’s self (which often requires "removing the mask" one wears to be socially acceptable). To do so, you must know and develop a full sense of your own identity first. That requires recognizing and knowing your personal needs, feelings, behaviors, and how to apply them to any given situation in your work as an actor. What I teach is not a "quick fix" for acting, but an intensive study of the techniques I learned from the masters. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to study with them, and honored to pass on what I know.

David Alan Loy / CEO / Producer
“I never ask someone to do something I wouldn’t do myself.” Born and raised on the back roads of Central Michigan, David Loy left a close family environment to pursue his love of music. Starting his musical career as a drummer and lead vocalist with a three-piece heavy rock band, David toured the club circuit throughout the Midwest during his youth. The band managed to work their way up to opening for major acts such as Styx and Bob Seger. Determination had only begun to manifest itself in David’s honest and hard work ethics.
David migrated to Los Angeles in pursuit of a songwriting and recording career. Through the eighties and nineties, he developed his guitar and writing techniques, started another rock band based in progressive pop country, and recorded a few songs…all the while working on developing television production skills. This resulted in his becoming a fully accredited Television Production Instructor for the state of California.
While still in California, success began to come in many forms for David as he entered more and more into the world of film and television. He put eighteen years into successful production work such as placing students from the Inner-City Filmmakers at the University of Southern California into the field of television and film. Students he taught received numerous awards at film festivals and were hired for high profile projects. While teaching a course on television and film, David managed to produce a promotional educational film and commercials featured in Los Angeles and numerous videos.
Ready to relocate, David and his lovely wife, Maribeth, moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2006. As is the DALMO (David Alan Loy Mode of Operation), within a year, he has become a highly respected teacher at the CSB School of Broadcasting in Nashville in television and film production, worked for the BBC on “Honey We’re Killing The Kids,” handled casting for Harpo Productions (Oprah’s company) on “The Big Give” reality show ad was involved in the production of the music video, Muthmath's “Typical,” for Warner Brothers. The video was awarded by AOL best backwards video of all time. And then came David’s meeting with William Fain. David has qualities that Wilky knew he could respect and wanted to work with….integrity, intelligence, enthusiasm, a sense of humor, and knowing when to listen and when to speak. David started as a 2nd AD on the William Fain Productions’ film, A Father’s Rights, and quickly advanced to 1st AD for the last 2 weeks of shooting. Currently, David is Unit Production Manager on the film, Amateurs, The Movie, WFP’s second film production since February. With his affable, easy going, yet hard working manner, David is now working as Executive In Charge Of Production and is sure to be a part of the WFP team for many productions to come.
Amanda
Maher / Operations Manager
Amanda is an interesting combination of diverse knowledge and a clean
page she is eager to fill with production knowledge. Born in
northern California, Amanda’s close-knit family
moved to Tennessee when she was eight. Amanda’s mom, a school
teacher, wanted a better place to raise their family and a good
public school system for education. So they landed in Brentwood, a
community known for being about family. While growing up, Amanda
played on softball teams, which serves her well now. A production can
get quite intense filled with “time is money” and
deadlines, deadlines, deadlines. For getting rid of the inevitable
tension, Amanda keeps her personal bat packed to take on the road and
simply heads to a batting cage. Studying for only three semesters at
the University of Rochester in New York, Amanda learned a life
lesson….she can’t handle unending “cold and grey”.
Her sunny smile is a testimony to warmth and blue skies. However,
those three semesters were filled with interesting, challenging
subjects such as Japanese and world affairs.
Back in Tennessee,
Amanda worked with her dad in his insurance company, attended MTSU
part time, and finally got her B.A. degree through correspondence.
While working full time for three years as an office manager for a
pest control company, Amanda became a student of David Loy’s at
CSB School of Broadcasting in Nashville, attending night classes in
order to get her degree…..tying for the highest GPA. During a
class, David asked if anyone was interested in working on a film as
an assistant, Amanda responded and worked for a week on the film, A
Father’s Rights. When
the wheels were set in motion to begin the production, Amateurs,
The Movie, Amanda was asked
to come on board as
office production assistant for William
Fain Productions and as 2nd AD. It seems Amanda is well on her way to
achieving her goal…to learn the business well enough to become
a 1st AD on future WFP films. |
